Val Kilmer's Kevo

Talented and temperamental, Val Kilmer has created a Marlon Brando-esque reputation for himself in Hollywood. Like his Island of Dr. Moreau co-star, Kilmer has been alternately described as both a genius and a bastard, depending on whom you talk to. There is no doubting his acting talents, and his resume certainly speaks of a performer who can climb right into the skin of his character. This was evident in Kilmer’s portrayal of 60s rock legend Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone’s The Doors. For critics, audiences and even friends of the former singer, Kilmer and Morrison for a time were practically indistinguishable.

After studying drama at the world-renowned Juilliard School in New York, Kilmer found success on and off-Broadway in both classical and contemporary productions. In 1983, he starred in the after school special One Too Many with Michelle Pfeiffer and Mare Winningham. His first film role came the following year with the spy spoof Top Secret. Kilmer would appear in a handful of films for the rest of the decade. It wasn’t until the 90s with films like The Doors, Tombstone and Batman Forever that Kilmer would become a true Hollywood lead. After a messy 8 month long divorce with actress Joanne Whalley in 1995 and a tryst with model Cindy Crawford the following year Kilmer, now entering his forties, could be poised to take Harrison Ford’s place as the next mature movie hero.
