Biography
Sergei Fedorov is currently considered one of the best two-way players in the NHL. He can be a defensive player or a goal scorer or a playmaker. He grew up in Russia where he was on the famed Red Army team, and was also a member of what is considered the best line in junior hockey history when he teamed up with Alexander Mogilny and Pave Bure. The three of them dominated the World Junior tournament and were to be the anchor of Soviet hockey until Mogilny defected in 1989. Fedorov was invited by his friend and roommate to join him and come to North America, but he declined, fearing for his family. The following year, after refusing an army commission and having passport problems while on vacation, Fedorov decided it was time to leave. The Detroit Red Wings had picked him in the 4th round of the draft and were more then willing to provide any needed assistance.
