Biography
Known as much for his singing ability as he is for his penchant for models, Rod Stewart is one of the most recognizable rock stars recording today. Roderick David Stewart got his musical start in his teens when he joined his first group, the Kool Kats, in the early 1960s. Stewart was an accomplished harmonica player, and it was for this reason that English bluesman Long John Baldrey asked him to join his group the Hoochie Coochie Men in 1964.
The group, which later changed its name to Steampacket, dissolved two years later, after which Stewart joined the group Shotgun Express. Only with this group for a short period, he joined legendary guitarist Jeff Beck in his new Jeff Beck Group in 1967. Stewart sang vocals on the group's first two albums, 1968's Truth and 1969's Beck-Ola before tensions mounted in the band and Stewart left to start a solo career. The Rod Stewart Album, his debut as a soloist, was released later that same year.
