From the moment that Robin Williams was given national exposure through the television series Mork and Mindy in 1978, he has been known for his manic and improvisational comic style. He has interchanged and combined this style with a more serious, dramatic one to become one of today’s most popular and successful entertainers.
An alumnus of Juilliard, the prestigious acting school where he shared a room with Christopher Reeve, Williams decided to try stand-up comedy and in the late 1970s became part of the West Coast comedy scene. Soon thereafter, Williams found himself a television star with a growing national audience. This in turn quickly led to work in films, a move at first dismissed by critics who believed his hyperactive persona would not succeed on the big screen.
