Many of the musicians who are releasing electronic music during the late ‘90s, are just now being recognized for their work. However, a large group of them have been making the same type of music since the end of the ‘80s, but have only had hits in the dance-music crazed U.K. One such artist is Moby, who has become one of the most sought after producers around.

Born Richard Melville Hall, he got his nickname Moby from his parents at a young age. They got the name from the title character of the book Moby Dick, written by Moby’s great-great-granduncle Herman Melville. Moby stayed away from the usual booze and drugs in high school, which of course alienated him from the majority of others. He played in several bands during his teens and the early ‘80s, such as AWOL and the Vatican Commandos.
