With the release of Austin Powers:The Spy Who Shagged Me, Mike Myers generated a world-wide current of frenzied "shag-adelic" fans.
Born to English immigrants in Scarsborough, Canada, Myers always retained a strong sense of Canadian pride. Growing up, he would watch Peter Seller's movies with his father in the early morning. Myers credits his parents for raising him in a very comedic, humorous environment. He developed his Austin Power's accent through the interaction with his many cousins, who spoke with a "limey" accent. His childhood ambitions were to be either a rock star or a hockey player.
On the last day of high school, Myers auditioned for the vaunted Second City troupe in Toronto. He was accepted immediately and worked with the group for 8 years. In 1989, Myers was hired by Lorne Michaels to write scripts for Saturday Night Live. Eventually, he worked his way to the top and wrote skits and characters for himself.
