Unlike the ditzy character of Karen Walker that she plays on NBC's hit Will and Grace, Megan Mullally is more grounded. Born the only child of a 1950s contract actor with Paramount Studios and a former model, she always loved to sing and dance. She began studying ballet while in high school and spent her summer breaks at George Balanchine's School of American Ballet in New York City. When she entered Northwestern University she began appearing in plays and musicals. She then worked in the Chicago theater for six years.

Mullally won a regular television role playing Ellen Burstyn's daughter in The Ellen Burstyn Show. She then landed regular roles in the short lived shows, My Life and Times, and Rachel Gunn, RN. She appeared on episodes of the shows Seinfeld, Frasier, Wings, and Ned And Stacey, where she first worked with current co-star Debra Messing on Will and Grace.
