+All American Mafioso" author Ed Becker recalls seeing Caifano in Las Vegas casinos in the mid-1950s, about the time the little killer was changing his name to "Johnny Marshall." A new surname couldn't disguise Caifano's volatile nature, or the real reason he'd come to Las Vegas. He wasn't here for the waters, but to shake down casino bosses on behalf of the boys back in Chicago. "We were all terrorized by the guy," says Becker, who in his early years in Las Vegas was a Riviera publicist. "If he walked into your hotel, whatever he wanted he got. You never approached him. He always looked at you like he was looking for a gun in your hand." Although charges were never filed, Caifano was a prime suspect in a June 17, 1960, fire that consumed the original El Rancho Vegas on the Strip. El Rancho owner Beldon Katleman had booted Caifano from the property just a few hours earlier, and the hoodlum had threatened the casino man; but county investigators later ruled the fire accidental. Becker, who lived in a bungalow behind the El Rancho, recalls Caifano making unsuccessful plays for some of the resort's chorus girls. Caifano's boorish behavior earned him an 86. "Caifano, my God, he was an evil son of a bitch," Becker says. "You didn't dare cross his line. His attitude always was, 'I'm a mob guy. Don't fool with me.' " But the tough guy stuff only works for so long in Las Vegas, and Caifano's high profile was so embarrassing to the state that it decided to make him a charter member of the fledgling and untested Black Book. True to his Hollywood gangster image of himself, Caifano complained and vowed revenge. But it was a game not even the notorious Johnny Marshall could beat. In a day when convicted felons and notorious ex-bootleggers were licensable in Nevada's "regulated" casino industry, Caifano was persona non grata. Four days before the El Rancho fire, Caifano entered the list of excluded persons and remained there for the next four decades. I know Carmine pretty well...
He's a stand up guy, always up for good time.
He's not a guy who looks for trouble, nor is he a mean person, unless you piss him off...

I spent several years with MR.CAIFANO at Federal Prison Sandstone MINN, truly a honer to have known such a great man,at the time in his late 70's truly a gentle man never let anything bother him, he was taken care of by all us Italians at sandstone, we made sure his time there was the best it could be.Being the only Italian in his housing unit A honor dorm, I made sure he got to watch his favorite tv shows, which was always GOLF,GOLF, and more GOLF. A very quiet man never speaking of his past, we all new enough no questions were ever asked of him, he was treated like royalty, "TRULY A GREAT MAN" it was a honor to have known him. written by Joe DeFazio

WoW Joe Defazio: What did Marshall like to eat in prison?

I never ate a meal with MR. Caifano, he was removed from unit early for meals probly due to his age, he was one of the older inmates and they were givin special early meal priveliges.
On Columbus day the Italians were givin control of kitchen, one day a year we all ate a good Italian meal, he was involved with that. He was very health concious, I dont recall him eating junk, he excersised reguraly played hand ball and walked all the time, I would think this played a big part in him living as long as he did, I was very happy to know he had as many "FREE" years and lived a long life.

This is my Kevo profile of Marshall Caifano.
This is for all those who have and are reading it.
I never said Carmine was Marshall's grandson.
I said he may be his grandson or Uncle.
Carmine is not on record saying he is his related to him.
I don't know if he is or isn't I met him once. I asked him was he his uncle or grandson? He just looked at me and said He's a Caifano, isn't that good enough? I said yes. Carmine is a stand up guy. He doesn't look mexican, that photo doesnt even look shit like him, I don't know who that is a lot of people has been posting photos of poeple, who has nothing to do with Marshall Caifano. I erased the photos many people posted it up.
But Carmine never said he was related to Marshall Caifano to me.
