Since 1997, Matt Lauer has been the co-anchor of NBC's popular Today show, helping to propel the morning program to consistently high ratings. A modest yet accomplished newscaster, Lauer is known for his personable demeanor and movie star smile. He is at his best in one-on-one interviews. The annual feature "Where in the World Is Matt Lauer?" also gives him the opportunity to travel the world in a span of a week.

Lauer got his start in 1979 at an internship at WOWK-TV in West Virginia, and was soon producing and appearing on air as a reporter. Various other television assignments followed, including a news magazine on the Lifetime cable network and a late night talk show on ABC, before he signed on with NBC in 1994 as a news anchor for Today. Just three years later, he was named the show's new co-anchor, replacing Bryant Gumbel.
