Matt Dillon's first several roles as a mouthy juvenile deliquent-type weren't a far stretch from his real personality. When the casting director for his first film Over The Edge scanned the halls of Hommocks Junior High in Larchmont, New York, he found exactly what he had been looking for in the young Dillon, who was at his locker cutting class. Their first exchange was riddled with sarcasm and obscenities, and completely won over both the talent scouts and then the casting director, Vic Ramos, who went on to become Dillon's mentor and manager.

Dillon's career continued with several of the same types of roles. He went on to play another sulking teen in Little Darlings with Kristy McNichol, after which Ramos plastered his picture in every teen magazine, making him the heartthrob of every young girl.
