Biography
Commercial producer David Harris discovered Marc Anthony, the youngest of eight children, at age 12. As a teenager, Anthony wrote songs and performed with Sa-fire, The Latin Rascals, and Menudo. When he was 19, he opened for Danny Rivera at Carnegie Hall and then, in 1991, performed at Tito Puente's 100th Album celebration at Madison Square Garden. Anthony returned in 1997 to sell out the Garden, becoming the only salsa performer at the venue to perform this feat. When Anthony released his debut album, the single "Ride on the Rhythm" rose all the way to number one on Billboard magazine's dance singles chart.
Marc Anthony attributes much of his own unique style to a diverse musical upbringing. Some of his early influences included Air Supply, Barry Manilow, Jose Feliciano and Ruben Blades.
