Tulsa firefighters will participate in various Sept. 11 memorial services.
However, local firefighters will reserve their own remembrance of their brothers and sisters who perished in the terrorist attacks for the annual Fallen Firefighter Memorial Service on Oct. 6.
The Tulsa Fire Department will participate with firefighters and equipment in a memorial service scheduled Wednesday at the Williams Plaza, beginning at 10:30 a.m., according to Sandy McGhee, president of International Association of Fire Fighters Local 176.
The local represents more than 600 members of the Tulsa Fire Department.
McGhee said Fire Department Chaplain Danny Lynchard has been contacted by numerous faith organizations planning memorial services.
"They want to extend invitations to firefighters so they can show their appreciation for the work we do -- and what those in New York City did," McGhee said.
Firefighters will hold their own memorial service in conjunction with the Tulsa Fire Department's annual Fallen Firefighter Memorial Service. That service will be Sunday, Oct. 6, in Veterans Park.
