John Michael Caifano (a.k.a. Marshall Caifano, John Marshall, Michael Heale, etc.) and his brother "Fat Lennie" emerged as kingpins of the Chicago crime syndicate in the early 1950s. After Lennie was killed, Caifano took over Chicago gambling operations in Las Vegas. Caifano was a prime suspect in more than ten murders, including that of Russian Louis Strauss in 1953.

In his early years in Chicago, Caifano shot gambling rival Frank Quotrocci in the head at a downtown tavern, but avoided arrest. Police mistakenly arrested Matt Capone for the murder when they found a hat bearing the initials "MC" in the street.

Caifano established autonomy over his gambling turf in the uptown neighborhood of Chicago. He was a suspect in at least ten other mob related murders including that of Estelle Carey, a Chicago cocktail waitress who was involved with Nick Circella, a member of the Willie Bioff movie extortion ring. The young woman was tied to a chair in her apartment and set on fire when the mob suspected Circella of saying too much to the government. The murder was never solved.

In March of 1980, Caifano was arrested and convicted of interstate transportation of stolen securities in West Palm Beach. He is currently imprisoned in the federal penitentiary at Sandstone, Minnesota where he is serving two concurrent twenty year sentences.
Work History
1951 Caifano took over the Chicago gambling operations in Las Vegas. 1968 the mob stole a large number of stock certificates from Chicago's O'Hare Airport, and Caifano agreed to help them dispose of the hot properties upon his release from jail.

1975, Caifano and five other men transported 2,000 Westinghouse stock certificates worth $4 Million from Chicago to Florida.

(John Michael Caifano) His name was Marchello Caifano, He changed his name, when we left out for Las Vegas, from Oak Park Chicago. He wanted to lay low so he changed his name the legal way. His new legal name was John Marshall.I mean this guy had more names then the phone book.I don't blame him that's how he had to be in Las Vegas. They even made a TV. series about this man, back in the early 80s it was called Ray Lucca. He ran Vegas along with his pal Johnny Roseli, who was known to hobnob with the hot movie stars. Caifano came to Las Vegas when Benny (Bugsy)Siegal was existing and after his two undermen begain to loose money for the mob. The FBI says that they believe Caifano
was the hitman that took Guss Greenbome out him and his wife.
They were found in their Hotel room, with their throats slashed.
Greenbome took over after Benny Siegal. So when Chicago moved into Vegas Caifano was their eyes. He married a lovely blonde from Ky, outside of the city Louisville. His wife the mob lady was a classy lady with a hillbilly accent, Mrs. Darlene Caifano.
When Darlene and Caifano begain to fall out with one another, it is widely believe that Caifano gave her up to his boy hood friend the boss of the chicago outfit Sam Giancanna, for chair of Las Vegas. Caifano would wear $400 dress shoes $700 dollar suits and a gold chain back in the 60s.He had deep pockets.
He was released from prison in 1990 and just died few years back
in FL at the age of 93 in his bed. I have to say many Mobsters dream to live and die at home in their bed at 93 years old like Caifano. I saw the comments about his grandson, I don't know how he is related to him, I believe he might be a great nephew or maybe his grandson.I seen Carmine, in Caesers and ask him, how was He related to Marshall, he just looked at me and said forgettabout it Tony. He is a young handsome guy who wears silk suits, sometimes jeans and Hollister shirts or RocaWear shirts.
He reminds me of Carmine Gotti they look just a like. So I said to him: Hey Carmine I like your growing up Gotti hairstyle, He replied this isn't growing up Gotti it's growing up Caifano.
I also heard he gotton into a small braw, not going to say wear and heard they held the upside down and hung out the window by his feet...I guess that gave him a little scare. But he's a good guy from Louisville ky/Las Vegas I dont't believe he is at all hook in to any crime.

Unbelievable. I've known a good many Italians in my life, Sicilians too. Good solid honest hard working people. Good neighbors good citizen. Still, these murderous vicious thugs, hold some awe in the minds of the Italian born, Folk heroes. HA! Few mention the scientists, doctors, nurses, the cops, the lawyers, the paramedics, the (GOOD) priests and nuns, the vast majority of Italian & Sicilians aren't saints as a whole, they're good honest people who try, but the kids of this generation shrug....they'd rather be known for the bad asses, everybody's proud to say they have a mobster somewhere in the family.. Get yer heads outta the assholes eh!
