Known for his explosive and flamboyant methods of persuasion, Harvey Weinstein, co-chair of Miramax Films, is a man to be reckoned with. It has been said that this intimidating producer has used his larger than life persona to get his way, from dressing up as a bloody butcher, to falling to his knees and begging to get exclusive distribution rights to films. During contractual negotiations, and confronted with the possibility that Miramax may not secure the rights to Michael Moore’s Roger and Me, Weinstein sent Moore a menacing gift: a razor sharp pair of ice skates, along with a note stating the film-maker was “skating on thin ice”.
