Gwen Stefani was born on October 3rd, 1969 in Fullerton, California, to Dennis and Patricia Stefani. She grew up in Orange County California with her brothers, Eric and Todd, and her sister Jill. As budding performers, the young group used to put on puppet shows for neighbors.

Music began to have a strong influence on Stefani when she was in junior high and brother Eric introduced her to such ska artists as Madness and The Selector. In 1986, Eric and his Dairy Queen co-worker John Spence formed what is today No Doubt. In the beginning, she shared vocals with John. Tragically, after No Doubt's incarnation Spence committed suicide, leaving her alone at the mic.
