Biography
Greg Norman has nearly twenty Tour victories under his belt and over fifty international victories. Norman is considered one of the greatest golfers of all time. Even though he has some very notable victories, like the 1994 Players Championship and the 1986 and 1993 British Opens, he is actually better known for his losses. Norman has suffered at least one playoff loss in each of the major tournaments. His most famous of all losses was his tragic collapse on the final day of the 1996 Masters. Nick Faldo not only erased a six-stroke deficit in the final round of the tournament but ended up finishing five strokes ahead of Norman.
To add to Norman's accomplishments, he is the first man to surpass $10 million in career earnings and is the Tour's all-time leading money winner. In 1995, he set a then-PGA Tour record for single season earnings with $1,654,959. He is also the first player to earn $1 million four times. Norman did not miss a cut in 1983, 1987, 1994 and 1995.
Norman was a member of the 1994 and 1996 President’s Cup teams, though he didn't play in 1994 due to illness. Norman's 1998 season was cut short by shoulder surgery in April. However, he came back strong after a six-month layoff, winning the Franklin Templeton Shark Shootout with Steve Elkington, which he hosts and contributing to the International Team's first Presidents Cup victory in his native Australia.
Norman is considered one of golf's most successful off-course businessman, as he owns several businesses. They include Greg Norman Golf Course Design First, established in 1987, and is recognized as one of the premier signature design groups; The Greg Norman Production Company, a subsidiary of Great White Shark Enterprises that is devoted to event management; Greg Norman Interactive, LLC, which has launched Shark.com in August, 1999, is a partnership between Great White Shark Enterprises, Inc. and Liberty One Limited, an Australian Media Company and Greg Norman Turf Company, established in 1995, located on 350 acres in Avon Park, Florida, grows and produces turf grasses for golf courses, athletic fields, and home lawns.
