Biography
Leonard Gary Oldman was born in a tough neighborhood in South London on March 21, 1958. His mother raised him when his alcoholic father walked out on the family around 1965. Oldman dropped out of school in 1974 to work in a sporting goods store, but later attended the Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama, earning a BA in Theatre Arts in 1979. Oldman's early theatrical training was on the stage, performing with the Citizen's Theater in Glasgow, Scotland in 1980, after which he made his London stage debut with the Royal Court Theatre in 1985 in The Pope's Wedding.
In 1986, Oldman made his feature film debut, earning critical acclaim for his portrayal of heroin-addict punkrocker Sid Vicious in Sid and Nancy.
