Biography
It was somewhat prophetic that Ewan McGregor first caught the acting bug by aspiring to be like his uncle, Denis Lawson. Lawson, a comic actor, appeared in all three movies of the original Star Wars Trilogy as rebel fighter Wedge Antilles. Twenty-some years later, McGregor is truly following in his uncle’s footsteps, having starred in the most recent Star Wars release, The Phantom Menace.
Raised in the small Scottish country town of Crieff, McGregor left the Morrison Academy, where his father taught, at the age of 16. After joining the Perth Repertory Theatre, he studied drama for a year at Kerkcaldy in Fife, then enrolled at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama for a three year course. Due to graduate, McGregor landed his first professional role in Lipstick On Your Collar, on Britain’s Channel 4 Television.
