Biography
Short in stature, with a slightly nasal voice, Dustin Hoffman has the gift of taking difficult roles and delivering award winning and memorable performances. Hoffman was born on August 8, 1937, in Los Angeles, California. He attended Los Angeles High School and the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music and Art, majoring in music. (He plays the piano beautifully.) After a brief time at Santa Monica City College, he entered the Pasadena Playhouse, where he and fellow student Gene Hackman were, ironically, voted Least Likely to Succeed.
Hoffman began his career on the stage, but has enjoyed most of his success in films. After only his second film, 1967’s The Graduate (a role for which he was paid only $17,000), he received his first of many Oscar nomination (others followed with Midnight Cowboy, Kramer vs. Kramer, and Rain Man, to name a few).
