Biography
Diane Keaton rose to fame through her many roles as a neurotic thirty-something in some of Woody Allen's most successful films. After dropping out of Santa Ana College's drama program, Keaton headed east to study in New York with the Neighborhood Playhouse. After several years, Keaton and Allen met in 1969 while working on Broadway, and she later starred in his play, Play It Again, Sam. Throughout the 1970s, Keaton starred in several of Allen's films, as well as the Francis Ford Coppola classics, The Godfather I & II. In 1977, her extraordinary performance in Annie Hall, again with Allen, earned her both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe.
In 1981, Keaton broke up with Allen and appeared in Warren Beatty's Reds playing leftist journalist Louise Bryant.
