Brooklyn-born Debra Messing possesses the ability to play both dramatic and comedic roles. Perhaps this versatility stems from her extensive training, having studied acting at Brandeis College and New York University, as well as The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in London, England.

Messing began her career off-Broadway. Her debut was in the Seattle production of The Importance of Being Earnest. She went on to appear in other productions, such as Four Dogs and a Bone, The Naked Truth, and the pre-Broadway production of Angels in America: Perestroika.

With her success in the theater, she moved to television, winning a part on four episodes of NYPD (1994 and 1995) before getting her own series on the Fox network, Ned and Stacey (1995 - 1997).
