Dave Grohl started off at a young age playing in various hardcore punk bands in the Washington D.C. area, and went on to play in one of the biggest rock bands ever. Grohl got his start playing drums, but also would play guitar or bass when needed. These talents would help him later on when he started his own band, the Foo Fighters, and played every instrument on the album.

Grohl played in such punk bands as Dain Bramage, Freakbaby, and Scream. When Scream disbanded in 1990, friend Buzz Osborne from the Melvins introduced him the Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic of Nirvana, who were looking for a new drummer. He joined the band after their debut release Bleach. When the follow up album, Nevermind, exploded after it’s release, Nirvana was the biggest rock band in the world at the time. Unfortunatley, with Cobain’s suicide in 1994, the band broke up. This did not stop Grohl from making music though.
