From the moment that Christina Ricci appeared on the scene, it was obvious that she was an actress worth watching. Beginning with the 1990 drama Mermaids, starring Cher and Winona Ryder, she excelled at playing the solemn and sometimes troubled child who was wise beyond her years.

Born in California but raised in Montclair, New Jersey, Ricci's parents split up when she was young. Not feeling challenged by school, Ricci was on a path to juvenile delinquency when the acting bug bit. After being discovered at a school play, she went on to do voiceover and commercial work.

Her early career highlights included playing Wednesday in Barry Sonnenfeld's The Addams Family and Addams Family Values. More family fare followed. However, recently she has made the transition from girl to woman (and PG to R rated) roles in a string of independent films - receiving accolades for Don Roos' The Opposite of Sex, Vincent Gallo's Buffalo 66, and Ang Lee's The Ice Storm.
