This daughter of two schoolteachers was first remembered in her Ottawa homeland for two early-'90s dance-pop albums and as a frolicking 10-year-old on Nickelodeon's "You Can't Do That on Television". Then she shocked most of her old fans when she came out with the album "Jagged Little Pill". This Alanis Morissette album signified her coming of age from her earlier efforts to a rawer voice and more aggressive style of music.
As a young child in Ottawa, Canada, Morissette began piano at age of six and wrote her first song at age nine. These talents eventually landed her on television. With the earnings from the television show, Morissette produced her first single on her own label, Lamor Records. The 1987 release, "Fate Stay with Me", was recorded with the musical expertise from former members of the Stampeders.
