As guitarist for the rock band KISS, Ace Frehley has spent the greater part of his musical career with his face hidden behind the band’s famous makeup. Born in the Bronx, New York, Paul Daniel Frehley had trouble staying in high school, as he was expelled from two and decided to leave a third. For a time, Frehley worked as a cabdriver and delivering mail.

Frehley had begun playing the guitar at the age of 14, and started playing in various bands, including the band Molimo during the early ‘70s. An ad was placed in the Village Voice by two guys looking for a guitar player for their new band. Frehley answered the ad, and met with the two, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, for an audition, and the band KISS was formed.
